The project aims to present the historical and cultural heritage of Kazakhstan from the 19th to the 20th century and to develop scientific and cultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

The exhibition included photo-documentary materials from the collections of the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, reflecting the processes of national identity formation, modernization, and cultural transformations.

Particular attention was paid to the visualization of traditional lifestyles, stages of industrialization, and the musical heritage of Kazakhstan. A separate section displayed copies of instruments belonging to Abai Kunanbayev, Zhambyl Zhabayev, Dina Nurpeisova, and Kenen Azirbaev.

At the opening ceremony, the director of the National Historical Museum of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zh.K. Bakashova, the assistant minister of culture, information, and youth policy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Bakytbek Shaikbekovich Sekimbaev, the deputy director of the National Central Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, A.B. Balaeva, as well as leading scholars and representatives of cultural institutions from both countries spoke.

Participants emphasized the significance of the exhibition as an example of effective inter-museum collaboration and noted the role of visual sources in reconstructing historical memory and studying socio-cultural processes in Central Asia.

The event concluded with a performance by dombra player Nurlan Abdiraliyev, a member of the Association of Kazakhs in Kyrgyzstan, and a guided tour of the exhibition.

The exhibition was visited by more than 1,000 people, including representatives of the scientific community, cultural workers, and students.

In addition, the delegation members attended a cultural program organized by the Kyrgyz side — the musical “Jamilya.” This event is a joint initiative aimed at strengthening the spiritual connection between the Kyrgyz and Kazakh peoples, as well as expanding international cultural dialogue.

“This exhibition has become another step towards strengthening cultural cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan – countries that Ural Tansykbaev connected in his work. The exhibition opened in a jubilee year for the museum, marking its 90th anniversary and the year it was granted National status, which became a special event in the cultural life of the country,” emphasized the director of the National Museum of Arts named after Abilkhan Kasteyev, Zhumabekova Gulaim Musagulovna.

This exhibition was the first in the last 40 years to cover all the main stages of the master’s creativity – from early works of the late 1920s to early 1930s to mature large-scale canvases of the “thaw” era.

Exhibition guests saw about 78 works of painting and graphics, brought from the State Museum of Arts in Tashkent, the Tashkent House-Museum of Ural Tansykbaev, the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan in Nukus, as well as from the collection of the State Museum of Arts of the Republic of Kazakhstan named after Abilkhan Kasteyev.

The exhibition provided a detailed account of the artist’s life, his dramatic creative fate, and the complex evolution of his style – from the modernist experiments of his early years to monumental landscapes filled with deep symbolism and philosophical resonance.

Particular attention at the exhibition was given to Tansykbaev’s early works, which reflected the influence of Russian avant-garde and French modernists. Among the exhibits were famous canvases such as “Crimson Autumn” (1931), “Self-Portrait” (1935), as well as works from the period of the Great Patriotic War and iconic landscapes of the “thaw” era.
